Role of the Parent

The goal of your child's Investment Relationship is for the Leadership Mentor to identify and develop leadership strengths in the Leadership Mentee (your child), so  the Leadership Mentee can use those developed strengths to identify and develop strengths in others, creating a Ripple Effect.

You can support your Leadership Mentee's Investment Relationship by:

  • Opening your home to the Leadership Mentor : The strongest NHRI relationships come when the Leadership Mentor becomes a 'member' of the Leadership Mentee's family. This can mean inviting the Leadership Mentor over for dinner, or having the Leadership Mentor attend games, concerts, plays, etc.
  • Help the Leadership Mentor identify strengths in your child : As a parent, you have an intimate knowledge of your child's abilities, gifts, and past experiences. Sharing your perception of your child's strengths with the Leadership Mentor can help the Leadership Mentor identify and develop your child's strengths.
  • Communicating with the Leadership Mentor : Ask the Leadership Mentor what strengths he/she sees in your child. Additionally, maintain open communication regarding the weekly One-on-One meetings, or any other NHRI-related events.
  • Praise your child when he/she uses strengths : An important part of developing strengths is reinforcing the positive use of a strength, which encourages your child to be more deliberate about using his/her strengths.
