NHRI Leadership Mentors

Graduated students in front of large columns

College students serving as Leadership Mentors in NHRI are among the top leaders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Their acceptance to NHRI indicates their high-level of  human relations capital  (the ability to develop positive relationships). Most Leadership Mentors take ALEC 102, a UNL course taught by NHRI's Associate Director, Hannah Sunderman, that focuses on the development of positive relationships, as well as identifying and developing strengths in others. In addition to their NHRI training, Leadership Mentors are also active in many other campus leadership organizations and honoraries.

Since 2011…

  • 85 NHRI leadership mentors have been elected to UNL Homecoming Court. Among that group, 10 leadership mentors have been crowned Homecoming King or Homecoming Queen.

  • An NHRI leadership mentor has been a UNL student body executive officer (President, Vice President) nearly every year

  • ## NHRI mentors have been inducted into Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society

  • ## NHRI mentors have been inducted into the Innocent’s Society, the Chancellor’s Senior Honorary

  • Many NHRI leadership mentors have been officers in Greek organizations

  • NHRI leadership mentors have been highly involved in other campus organizations

  • All nine UNL colleges have been represented among NHRI leadership mentors each year
