College students serving as Leadership Mentors in NHRI Leadership Mentoring are among the top leaders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Their acceptance to NHRI indicates a high level of "human relations capital" (the ability to develop positive relationships).

Leadership Mentors take ALEC 102, a UNL course taught by NHRI's Interim Program Director, Nick Knopik, that focuses on developing positive relationships and identifying and developing strengths in others.

Since 2010…

  • 100 NHRI leadership mentors have been elected to UNL Homecoming Court. Among that group, 12 leadership mentors have been crowned Homecoming King or Homecoming Queen.
  • An NHRI leadership mentor has been a UNL student body executive officer (President, Vice President) nearly every year
  • 105 NHRI mentors have been inducted into Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society
  • 44 NHRI mentors have been inducted into the Innocent’s Society, the Chancellor’s Senior Honorary
  • Many NHRI leadership mentors have been officers in Greek organizations
  • NHRI leadership mentors have been highly involved in other campus organizations
  • All nine UNL colleges have been represented among NHRI leadership mentors each year
